I know people are rightly concerned about the rapid spread of COVID-19 in New York City, and the threat it poses to our health, our loved ones, and our livelihoods.<\/p>\n

But in times of crisis, Americans stand as one. It’s been truly amazing to see the number of people asking me how they can support their fellow Americans during this time, so I wanted to reach out to you today with the steps we’re taking in Congress to ensure that we all get through this moment stronger than ever, what we can do together to help our fellow citizens, and the latest information that you should know related to this pandemic.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In Congress, I’ll continue doing everything in my power to advocate for you during these trying times. From the start, House Democrats have measured every economic relief proposal on how it will impact the workers and working families of America. Last week, we worked to pass the largest relief bill in American history. We fought for measures to offer direct cash payments to everyday Americans, expand unemployment benefits, support small businesses, and provide critical resources to hospitals, nursing homes, and health care workers. But, we are not through this yet and more remains to be done in the coming weeks and months.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Many families and the elderly are struggling to afford or even find basic necessities like toilet paper, soap, and canned or boxed food to hold them over during this indefinite period of social distancing. With New York Public Schools closed, many children who rely on free or subsidized school lunches have suddenly lost their primary source of healthy food.<\/p>\n

It would mean the world to me if you would join me and pitch in whatever you can afford to support those who will be affected by the coronavirus crisis the most. Will you join me in supporting The Campaign Against Hunger,<\/a> the Food Bank for New York City,<\/a> and the Jewish Community Council of Greater Coney Island today?<\/a><\/strong> Whatever you give will make a meaningful difference in the lives of those struggling during this crisis.<\/p>\n

Please continue to take the recommended precautions to keep yourselves and your neighbors safe. You can find updated safety tips and information on the New York State Department of Health’s website<\/a><\/strong>and sign up for updates on the city\u2019s COVID-19 text alert program by texting COVID to 692692 (NYC-NYC).<\/p>\n
