On September 22nd, at BRIC Arts Center in Brooklyn we are hosting a truly special fundraising event. MUSIC MAKES YOU will be an incredible night of music in support of music education. Grammy nominee Blake Mills is the event\u2019s musical director\/ bandleader, Karen O and Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s, Lucius and a few other top musicians are lending their talents.
\nYou may know D\u2019Addario as a string company but for over thirty years, we\u2019ve been fierce advocates of music education because of its power to affect positive social change in underserved communities. We are a grant making foundation and we pride ourselves on supporting grassroots community based programs that are in many cases safe havens for children after school. We pick the best programs, the programs that have greatest likelihood for success in their communities, and we give them a leg up. And it\u2019s come to mean something to be supported by our little foundation. Often we\u2019re the first to come in and give that much needed support and in doing so we lend some credibility to these grassroots programs that enables them to seek more support locally and truly grow.<\/p>\n

To give you an idea about how impactful this work is 100% of the children who participated in the Harmony Project (one of the most successful programs we support) went on to college last year. That\u2019s a staggering number considering that many of the kids from these neighborhoods may not finish high school. Learning to play an instrument opens up a world of possibility for a child that includes building self confidence, community and trust.
\nToday we support over 200 music programs around the world but it\u2019s not enough. We are overwhelmed with applications and need and find we have to say \u201cNo\u201d far more often than we would like\u2026 HELP US SAY YES
\nPLEASE join us if you can on September 22nd and if you need one more reason (!) please know that 100% of all monies raised from ticket sales and the auction will go directly music education programs. Directly to the kids.<\/p>\n
