Dear concerned neighbors:

Tonight was another step in the ULURP process. The Land Use Committee recommendation against the 80 Flatbush Development was brought to the full board. Remember the Committee voted 10 against and 1 abstention.

This evening the full board voted 32 against, 1 in favor, 5 abstentions and 2 recused. Again, a very positive outcome for us.

Borough President Adams will release his position at the end of May. Our aim was always to get a strong NO from the Community Board with the expectation that it will influence BP Adams to follow closely behind.

After the Borough President’s vote, the proposal goes to the Department of City Planning (DCP). The likely date is Wednesday, June 13th.

Since the Community Board and Borough President’s votes are only advisory, I fully expect DCP to approve the project as proposed. DCP helped bake this cake, why would they change the recipe now?

Then our fight moves to the City Council. Council Member Steven Levin has been vocal about the scale and density of the project. We will be asking him for a very firm position that takes this development back to square one.

I will keep you informed as the process moves along.

When we get to City Council, we will need to turn out the biggest crowd yet! Vocal residents will need to testify again and numbers will need to be turned out again.

For those who have spoken and observed, thank you. This is important for all of Boerum Hill.

Defend our neighborhood and all of Brooklyn from out-of-scale development!
