One of Walt Whitman’s last surviving homes is right here in Fort Greene / Clinton Hill at 99 Ryerson Street. We have two expert speakers on the topic.

Brad Vogel
With a new Chair of LPC, preservationists have recently made a renewed effort to landmark Walt Whitman’s last standing home in New York.

Topic: Preserve Our Brooklyn Neighborhoods Files Lawsuit

Lucy Koteen and Sandy Reiburn, well known Fort Greene community activists and founders of Preserve our Brooklyn Neighborhoods:
Lawsuit filed on Thursday October 11, 2018 against the City of NY, the NYC Planning Commission against the South Portland rezoning for violating 2007 contextual zoning.
Topic: Small Business Jobs Survival Act
The S.B.J.S.A, in creating a small business lease program, could help support vanishing small businesses. The new legislation is going before the City Council this week.

Kirsten Theodos
Founder, TakeBackNYC
Kirsten is the founder of TakeBackNY a member of the Alliance for a Human Scale NYC. She recently published an Op-Ed in The Villager about the S.B.J.S.A
There will be a hearing on the legislation on October 22, 1:00pm. City Council – File #: Int 0737-2018.
One hour prior at noon a rally is planned at city hall.
